Aromatherapy vs Thai Massage — Which One Should You Book?

A straight comparison of aromatherapy and Thai massage, and which symptoms suit which.

The most common question at our counter is “which massage should I have today?” The answer depends on what you want fixed, not on which is better.

Thai massage — muscles and joints

Pressure along the sen lines plus assisted stretching, without oil, so the therapist can hold the muscle and work deep. Best for pain you can point at: shoulders, shoulder blades, a lower back stiff from sitting, or heavy training.

Note: mild soreness for about a day after your first session is normal, much like after exercise.

Aromatherapy — nervous system and sleep

Essential oils with long, continuous strokes, designed to move the body from alert into rest. Best for poor sleep, a racing mind, accumulated stress, or an ache you cannot quite locate.

Note: pressure is naturally lighter. If you want firm work, say so in advance or choose Swedish instead.

Quick guide

  • Desk-work neck and shoulders → Thai, or herbal compress
  • Poor sleep, stress → Aromatherapy
  • Post-training soreness → Swedish, or Thai with oil
  • Long drive, swollen legs → Foot massage, then the onsen
  • Both at once → A package with scrub, onsen and aromatherapy

Can you do both in one day?

Yes, and many guests do. Take Thai first to release the muscles, then finish with aromatherapy or an onsen soak to let the nervous system drop. Do not reverse the order — deep work after relaxing simply wakes the body again.
